Spectator arrested for abusing Mendis

Three spectators were arrested by Bombay Police on Thursday for abusing Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis, who came onto the field during the second day’s play of the third Test Match here at the Brabourne Stadium.

Mendis is not playing the game, but when he came onto the field during India’s first innings, a group of students had abused the Sri Lankan bowler.

Police arrested three youngsters and one of them - Rupak Lele (20) was taken to the Marine Drive Police Station in Bombay and charged for ‘indecent behaviour in public’, English Tabloid Mid Day reported.

He was made to pay a fine of Rs. 1200 (SLR 2880) and was asked to appear before court on Friday.

"It wasn’t only me. I was the unfortunate one to be caught," the culprit told the newspaper.
