Kings Top of the Table

FTGDCA - Round 7

By Ian Harley

Dean Roberts was the last wicket to fall as he guided Upper Ferntree Gully past Ferntree Gully’s score and into top spot for the Christmas break. Left hand opener Roberts was the mainstay of the innings, with Paul Henry contributing 48. It was a dirty day for the Blues in the field with 8 catches going down.

Upwey ensured that only percentage separated them from the ladder leaders with a win over Eildon Park. Matt Mulchay(53) received support from Hurst (34), Howe (30) and Bianchi(33) for the Tigers, whilst Steve Pimm snagged 4 wickets for the Panthers.

Rowville jump into 4th spot and 6 points ahead of the pack after routing St Johns Tecoma for 93 in their pursuit of the Hawks 242. Marc Hardy top scored in a disappointing effort for the Saints whilst Anderson (3/25) and Bogar (3/15) did the damage for Rowville.37 runs to Corey Brasher in the Saints second dig staved off the possibility of an outright.

Monbulk made a strong statement joining the pack on 18 points as their openers, Dave Wright (59) and Jason Simmonds (58), put on 134 for the opening stand against Johnson Park with the first wicket falling at 4.05 pm. Blake Walter 42* & Nyantha Weeraman 47* saw them home with 9 overs to spare. The Sharks need to find a spark in their bowling lineup as once again they failed to make any inroads.

The Basin had a slight wobble loosing 5/4 before passing Knox Gardens score of 121 8 wickets down. Wayne Koster (30) and Danny Rundle (33) helped the Huntsmen home with Wild taking 4 wickets for the Falcons. A sporting declaration at 7/145 set the Basin a chase of 144 for outright points. The gamble nearly paid off with Knox Gardens grabbing 7 wickets as the Basin finished 30 runs short, but with the all important 6 points in their back pocket.

Lysterfield Superman Kyle Snyman continued on his merry run making way as the Beavers took the points from Belgrave. Snyman (90) and Sean Alston (44) made sure of the win with Lysterfield finishing the day on 4/227. Their win adds them to the list of 6 teams sitting on 18 points with an eye on 4th spot.

In Decoite Shield Victorian Country fast bowler and former MPCA country week captain Simon Dignan scored 124 as Footballers won by 255 runs over Mountain Gate. Knoxfield chased 10 points dismissing Knox for 78 before having the ‘Burras 8/105 at stumps. Scott McKenzie provided the firepower for the Knights with 5/40.

South Belgrave managed to snare the outright points dismissing Auravale for 45 & 95 and making 2/29 in their second dig to seal the win.

In the U/17 Healthguard Cup competition Josh Saker took 6/0 off 5 overs against St Johns for Knoxfield
