Kings continue on their merry way

FTGDCA Round 9
by Ian Harley

Upper Ferntree Gully continues their march towards finals action with a strong showing against Rowville at Seebeck oval. The Kings dismissed the Hawks for 137 with speedster Aaron Watson taking 3/19, while Tate Bergman topped the scorers list for Rowville. Sources have revealed that King’s stalwart Alister Lord took a spectacular catch to dismiss Matt Blackman diving from second slip to effect the catch at point, spectators were amazed that Lord got airbourne. Sitting at 2/43 The Kings will look to wrap the game up by tea next week.

Johnson Park is in a similar position over Knox Gardens at Argyle Way. The Falcons were dismissed for 119 with Steve Bowen (3/31) and Craig Wenham (3/24) inflicting the hurt on the scorecard.  Despite having lost their Skipper early the Sharks look to have the game under control unless the ghosts of last week return. Sharks President Wilko also reached his first 50 today.

Ferntree Gully is the shock third team to be rolled on day one with what could be considered a below par score. The Blues managed 133 as Eildon Park medium fast bowler Steve Pimm snared 6 wickets for 29. The Blues were cruising at 0/63 before Pimm combined with Cam Cosstick (3/31) to shut down the Ferntree Gully batsmen. Mark Teofilo(41) led the way for Ferntree Gully, although with The Panthers 2/68 at the close of play the Blues will need to exert some extraordinary pressure to walk away from this game with any points

Upwey welcomed the return of Matt Mulchay from Victorian Country duties, while the Basin made a long awaited return to the Main oval at Batterham Park. Mulchay provided the backbone for the Tigers innings compiling 111 of 222 runs scored for the day. The Huntsmen were well serve by Matt Heskes who bagged 4 tiger scalps.

St Johns Tecoma made the most of their visit to Lakesfield reserve as they set Lysterfield a target 311 next week. Openers Dean Palandri (41) and Corey Walters (63) laid a solid platform before Newman (71) and Hardy (45) propelled the Saints to a score of 310. The Beavers toiled hard without much luck with Steve Anderton(3/39) the best of the bowlers.

Scott Vozzo helped Belgrave restrict Monbulk to 155, capturing 6 wickets. Jason Fraser (79) and Nyantha Weeraman (33) were the Hawks best and will need to contribute in similar fashion with the ball to stop Belgrave claiming sucessive wins.

In Decoite Shield Footballers amassed 9/375 against Auravale. The Griffins had no century maker preferring to share the runs around. Knoxfield have set South Belgrave 175 runs to chase while Knox are 0/31 having dismissed Mountain Gate for 144
