SL Under-19 meet unbeaten South Africa
The Island - SNNI
Sri Lanka Under-19 captained by Chathura Peiris will meet unbeaten South Africa Under-19 in the ICC Youth World Cup quarter final in Christchurch today.
After conceding a defeat at the hands of hosts New Zealand in their last group match Sri Lanka Under-19 will come out in their full strength to stay alive in the tournament.
Sri Lanka’s defeat to the hosts in the final group match, placed them second in the group standings and that fixed their quarter final fixture against South Africa who secured the top spot of their group by virtue of their unbeaten record.
Sri Lanka met South Africa in a triangular tournament in South Africa prior to the World Cup. And the players told Sunday Island before their departure to New Zealand that they could beat South Africa in case they meet them in the quarterfinals.
Sri Lanka had fluctuating fortunes against South Africa in that tournament but managed to record a victory against them.
South Africa will have a slight advantage over Sri Lanka as their pacemen are more familiar to the conditions in New Zealand than their counterparts. But the Sri Lanka’s seam bowlers too have showed that they could be handy in those conditions as they did well against ICC associate teams in the group stage.
